One of many roles that teri agosta plays in running the 600-room hotel that cuyahoga county built next to the huntington cleveland convention center is selling the city.

Like many transplants, she finds more to like here than many natives. She is also exuberant about downtown’s features and growth. Overseeing a staff of 300, she relishes how much out-of-town recruits for managerial jobs enjoy the region and, once they get here, want to stay.

Agosta is a self-described foodie and uses her travels to find locally popular foods for the hotel’s restaurants. Of course, she’s moved a lot for opportunities in the hotel business. However, when transferred to a washington, D.C., hilton from baltimore, she commuted 60 miles each way daily for three years.

"I had a nice house," she said.General manager she is also sharing her expertise as a member of the board of the gordon square arts district and destination cleveland. She’s aggressive. Asked what superhero she would like to be, she says, "catwoman. She kicks batman’s butt."

When I got here from arizona, it was winter. I stayed in the bingham and froze walking back and forth to my office. It got better as the weather changed and we got closer to opening the hotel in 2016.

I’m in a townhouse in the gordon square neighborhood. It has a view of lake erie. I wanted to be close to work. Since the hotel is a public project, I felt I should live in the city. I like the restaurant and arts scene in detroit-shoreway. It’s also not too populated. I believe ohio city is congested. I’m excited to see hingetown taking shape to connect ohio city and detroit-shoreway.General manager both neighborhoods need to be connected to grow. It’s all about curb appeal. I’m excited about the changes I’ve seen since I’ve been here.

I’ve been with hilton 25 years. I like to say I grew up with hilton. I started with the company after getting a degree in marketing. Cleveland needs more hotel rooms. We have about 1,500 downtown now. We need 2,500. We need more rooms to get larger groups. I think the key for cleveland is to have lots of groups and sports events. It’s going to be tough for suburban hotels now, but we’re going to fill up. We’re going to start scheduling things out to ’18, ’19 and ’20. As we get more events, we’ll get compression and downtown will send guests to the suburbs.

We all need people. That’s why edwins leadership & institute and cuyahoga community college are so important.General manager the industry has expanded so much, so fast (that) we all need the mid-level managers and chefs.

We need to focus on the airport and a sense of arrival. It’s our front door. We need a greater sense of place. And downtown — there is no retail. If a guest forgets something, where do we send him or her? Where do you go for socks or a tie? Suppose I was a guest and wanted to buy a blouse for a special occasion. Where would I go? The only drugstores are on east ninth street, although you can get some of the basics at constantino’s.

We are changing our prices at bar 32 to bring them in line with the market. For example, a domestic beer will be $5. It was $8. We’re adding more food and a DJ on saturday nights for our local customers. We’re also looking forward to the rock and roll hall of fame induction ceremony.Gordon square we’re going to have rock inspired food and drinks with names like "the moody blues" cheeseburger, "living on a prayer" cocktail and "just what I needed" loaded fries.
