• personal interests: I teach zumba at the university so I have an interest in promoting fitness and health to others. On the opposite end of that, I enjoy indulging in breakfast food at any hour of the day. So a day with brunch and zumba is my happy place.

• message to prospective students: don’t be afraid to voice your thoughts, feelings, and concerns. The faculty is supportive and open to hearing feedback, I promise. Also, take time to connect with your cohort, they are your people and your lifeline through this program.

• personal interests: I like to spend as much of my time outdoors as I can: I like riding my bike around iowa city, and hiking. I also have been practicing yoga for 10+ years and I am trying to find time to practice yoga or lift weights when I have free time. I also enjoy cooking and watching movies in my free time.

• message to prospective students: graduate school is an ultra-marathon, not a sprint. Go at your own pace, do what interests you. Top universities of canada be kind to yourself and try to avoid comparing yourself to others. We all have different interests and backgrounds and this brings strength and diversity to our program.

• message to prospective students: take it from someone who did not get accepted the first year they applied: determination and optimism can play a large role in forming resilience to uncertainty. Don’t doubt your abilities; but also be cognizant of the caliber of students who are hungry to get into this program. It’s okay to not know what will happen next, or to be told no, but never give up on yourself! The results just might surprise you.

• message to prospective students: if you’re not from iowa or the midwest, pursuing a phd here can sometimes not feel like the highlight of your life. Despite that, iowa CP is a community that is supportive, caring and passionate as it strives for diversity and social justice. If you’re considering iowa CP, do not hesitate to contact and get to know us- our culture, the surrounding environment, and your fit with potential advisers. Most of all, try to enjoy the process!

• message to prospective students: interviews connected the pieces. They were by far the most meaningful and insightful part of the process for me. While, I had spent so much time (re)reading about different programs, and hearing about “fit.” being here in person allowed me to experience what my life would actually look like. I know this process is exhausting, but when that self-doubt sneaks in please remember that you are more than good enough. Washington university in st louis acceptance rate you have so much to offer. • message to prospective students: CP at iowa has been a great place for me to carve out my own individual path for research. I’ve always felt supported and encouraged to pursue exactly what I want. The warmth and acceptance of the faculty during my interview was what brought me here, and years later, it’s stayed just as strong.

• message to prospective students: I enjoy my time in the program even when challenging things arise, because of the support from the people here and because the program was/is a good fit for me. I hope you will find the program that fits well with your interests, prepares you for your career goals, and furthers your personal and professional growths.
