Success story right in the heart of ithaca west la college professor email

There are lots of terrific success stories in tompkins county and I recently found one that I felt would make for a good story to share in this column.

Samantha abrams and ian gaffney met in the summer of 2008 but did not have a normal courtship. Most of their time was spent in the kitchen making vegan and gluten free items, all made with clean ingredients. Ian’s history in the food world, such as working in plant-based eateries in san francisco and new york city, and samantha’s excitement for making things happen (she had recently graduated from ithaca college with a degree in theatre arts management and dance), they knew they had something special going on as a couple and a professional team.

Ian taught samantha his coconut cookie recipe, and in 2009 the pair decided to launch emmy’s organics, named for ian’s mom, as they started working out of her home kitchen in ithaca.Friday march

At first emmy’s organics could be found in local stores such as greenstar and gimme! Coffee, along with a booth at the ithaca farmers market. Their products can now be found in more than 13,000 retail locations across canada and the united states, including starbucks and wegmans.

Throughout the growth of the company emmy’s has remained loyal to the ithaca community, contributing to local non-profits and events each year. They are pleased to have recently announced they have partnered with the whole planet foundation to help alleviate global poverty and will be donating $10,000 to the organization.

Samantha says, “thanks in part to whole foods market’s local producer loan program, we’ve seen the positive impact of what growing a business inside a community can do.Emmy’s organics we are grateful to be able to come full circle and help empower other entrepreneurs, their families and their communities.”

I visited their headquarters at 629 west buffalo street in ithaca, where I could see busy and happy looking staff members hard at work making cookies. I also enjoyed meeting the couple’s sweet dog, sadie, a mixed blend of shar pei and beagle. This young couple’s story is a true success story and the cookies, such as vanilla bean, raspberry, peanut butter, lemon ginger and chocolate chip, are super good! Taxes
