Tom izzo michigan state basketball must embrace march madness west la college parking

Tom izzo wants his michigan state basketball team to improve its offense in the long break between losing saturday to michigan in the big ten tournament in new york and its next game.

“when it gets to this time of the year, you better understand the difference in playing games in one-and-done time,” izzo said tuesday on “the mad dog show” on WVFN-AM (730) in lansing. “A couple guys said after (losing to U-M), ‘I just didn’t do this well enough.’ and dwayne stephens said, ‘yeah, and we’re going home.’

Izzo allowed for the spartans to absorb a little culture and a quick spring break trip. They took monday off to rest following saturday’s 75-64 loss to the wolverines. Then on tuesday night, they went as a group to chicago to watch the musical hamilton at CIBC theater.Izzo said

MSU alum jonathan kirkland is starring in the production.

S/O to @msu_basketball for coming thru and showing ya boy some love. Awesome kids, can’t wait to see what they accomplish. The spartans practiced wednesday afternoon at the NBA training facility in chicago, hours before denzel valentine and the bulls were set to take on deyonta davis and the memphis grizzlies at the united center. And then it was time to head back to east lansing for a busy few days of practice.

Izzo had plenty of plans for no. 5 MSU (29-4) the rest of the week as they wait for their NCAA tournament future.Izzo said he expected to have review sessions on how to deal with teams that press and those that play zone defense. He anticipated plenty of film study and individual drill sessions. Then he is prepared to make the spartans “hit it pretty good” in workouts thursday, friday and saturday, including an intrasquad scrimmage with referees.

Then comes sunday, when the spartans will find out their NCAA fate a week and a day after their big ten tournament semifinal loss to michigan. Izzo said MSU will have its annual banquet that day, then gather inside breslin center to watch the selection show (6 p.M./TBS) afterward in the arena.Don’t care

As of wednesday morning, CBS sports’ jerry palm projects the spartans as a no. 2 seed in the west region, facing 15-seed UC davis in the first round in detroit. ESPN’s joe lunardi has MSU as a no. 3 seed in the west region, opening in nashville against UNC greensboro.

“I don’t care where we go, I don’t care what our seed is. I really don’t,” izzo said. “would it be nice to be in detroit? I think it’d be nice for our fans. But that’s kind of the way I’m looking at this whole thing.”

“I just talked to jimmy boylen from the bulls, and when you’re playing in a series there, it’s best out of seven. We don’t have that luxury, and that has to be learned,” izzo said. “and sometimes, this is where our youth maybe rears its ugly head once in a while. So hopefully we learned something in this (big ten) tournament, and we’re gonna get better.Jonathan kirkland

“but if I were the people out there, I would still really appreciate this team because they’ve weathered some storms. They’ve done a hell of a job. And yet now we gotta step it up a notch.”
