Dwight, a millstadt native, graduated from belleville west high school in 1979, and went on to college at the university of illinois in urbana. He earned a bachelors of science in animal science in 1983, and stayed at the university of illinois to attend veterinary school. He earned his doctor of veterinary medicine in 1987, and moved back home to practice in millstadt in a mixed animal practice. From then on, liz and dwight have strived to create a quality animal hospital that is strongly rooted in the community, where quality veterinary care to our patients and exceptional client services are the mainstays of the practice.

Through the years, dwight has taken mixed animal practice to a whole different level by creating his own special niche in the practice of veterinary medicine. His special niche in veterinary medicine includes white tail deer, elk, and porcine (pig) medicine. University of kansas world ranking most recently dwight’s expertise in the porcine industry has launched him into the demanding and exciting world of pig exporting, where he is called upon to monitor biosecurity and the health of thousands of pigs being exported to other countries like china, vietnam, and mexico. When dwight is not working with pigs, his down to earth attitude and extensive knowledge base lets him excel in the areas of small animal medicine, working one-on-one with clients, and in orthopedic surgeries like bone pinning and cruciate ligament repair. Dwight and liz have two children, mitch and emma. In dwight’s free time, he enjoys fishing, mushroom hunting, playing kloepper (local monroe county card game), watching the cardinals, and playing in the bud light brigade. Dwight is always accompanied by his two trusty companions, maggie (heeler) and ava (german short hair). Ava can always be found in dwight’s chair at his desk and if dwight is lucky, she sometimes shares it with him!

Liz graduated from the ohio state university college of veterinary medicine in 1984. Her first job was in a mixed animal practice in upstate new york. She then wanted to expand on her large animal skills, so she applied for and accepted an internship at the university of illinois veterinary school in food animal medicine and surgery. While there, she met her future husband, dwight boehm. After her one year internship, liz furthered her education at the university of oklahoma, earning a masters degree in reproductive physiology and completing a residency in theriogenology (reproduction) at the veterinary school. Liz carries these philosophies into her everyday work. She is a tiny woman with a big heart and an even bigger ability to work with large animals. Her specialties at the WAH include cattle, sheep, goat, and alpaca medicine and surgery, along with the dogs and cats. She is our resident surgeon for small animals, where we rely on her patience and ingenuity in the surgery suite. The only thing liz likes more than being a vet is being a mom. Her two children mitch and emma have grown up helping mom and are a big help at the clinic.
